SPLASH is Making Waves

Swimming Pools for Active Leisure, Sports and Health (SPLASH) has made

vital progress in pursuit of building a world-class swimming facility on the Eastside:

• City of Bellevue’s $100,000 feasibility study verifies the need for a large facility in the Bellevue area

• The study outlines capital costs for five facility options and six possible Bellevue sites

• Partnerships with the school district, YMCA, BCC and corporate sponsors are being explored

• Next Steps: choose one facility and one site location; allocate money for the design process;

target Park Bond in 2009 for main facility funding (SPLASH’s preferred option: 54m x 25y competitive

pool; 25m x 25y program pool; diving pool; therapy pool; family whirlpool; leisure pool with lazy river,

 slides, and interactive play features)

Help us make a bigger SPLASH by spreading the good news and showing your

support at public meetings – which will be posted at www.splash4all.org

As a Midlakes Club, this is your chance to help SPLASH make a SPLASH!

This is a lengthy process, which has been proceeding well, and the time has come to get all of you

involved in showing your support for aquatics in our community.  This Thursday, July 17th, at 7pm,

the Bellevue Parks Department is holding a Public Workshop to share work on the Eastgate area

master plan and wants public input — and we really could use your support!

This 27 acre site is just one of 6 sites being studied by the city as a possible location for a new aquatic

center. This site is attractive, as it could be a “Sportsplex”, with multiple activities, including ball fields,

play areas, in addition to aquatics, a current trend in many communities across the U.S.

Please drop by the meeting and tell them how many people support the building of a new world-class

swimming facility in Bellevue. The meeting will be held in the Bellevue Community College Cafeteria at

7pm. If you cannot attend, please email your comments to pfehrman@bellevuewa.gov.

Here is a link to the city’s public info on the meeting:

http://www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/pdf/Parks/eastgate_area_properties_meeting2_invitation.pdf

We anticipate in September, the consultant’s final report verifying the need for a large facility will go

to the City Council, and we will put the word out when we need your support at those City Council

meetings.

Thanks for your support!

Midlakes Swim League

Midlakes Swim League began its journey to provide competitive aquatic opportunities in 1954.  It has grown to include 26 private clubs in the greater Seattle and east side regions ranging from Renton to the south, Kirkland to the north, Seattle to the west and Issaquah to the east.  Over 3,000 athletes compete from late May thru August in swimming, diving and water polo competitions.  Using guidelines and standards from USS swimming, U.S. diving, AAU (Amateur Athletic Union), and United States Water Polo athletes are not only mastering aquatic skills but life skills in sportsmanship, community, character and confidence.  Midlakes attributes it’s enthusiastic and committed volunteers for the success of the League over its 50 year history.
